The aim of the Learning Society movement is to create a climate of experiment, learning and progress across the whole country. In particular it aims to create an informed critical mass of citizens who will be willing to challenge, and take responsibility for, the design of the systems that characterise our society.
As all our systems are in fact interrelated this aim applies across the whole of society. It applies across the whole of Scotland, from its education system to the systems used in its commercial organisations.
The initiative places great emphasis on "Knowledge." It is not the intention to promote a particular approach. It simply aims to establish a sound scientific foundation for the development and application of knowledge in context of the management of our organisations and the enabling of our human resource.
The crux of moving forward is an ability to think differently. Applying new methods onto old thinking will not get us very far. These files open with a look at the many excellent initiatives of the past 25 years that have made little to no difference. What can we learn from these failures - what new thinking should we embrace?
It carries on to look at the need to create multiple connections to enable emergent change. It stresses the need for sound scientifically based knowledge. And then onto an exploration of modern concepts such as "A Belief in People," "Systems Thinking" and "Knowledge."
