The Range of Activities

From the recognition that all parts of our society are interrelated, we have, somehow, to address the whole if we are to work towards a "Learning Society."

Our present range of activities is represented by the following diagram.

Leadership of vision by Cross Party MSPs

The aim is to have this project led by our MSPs from Holyrood.

We have been speaking to a range of MSPs, all supportive of the vision.

In particular the initiative has the support of

• Nanette Milne - Conservative

Film 

It is our intention to commission a film for TV and the internet providing a picture of the vision, the framework and case studies

Thought Leading Dinners

The aim is to have 100+ dinners, in groups of 8-10 beamed across the whole of Scotland. Presentations by international speakers followed by discussion - see file "Thought Leading Dinners" These dinners would be hosted by the many forward thinkers present throughout Scotland.

The Public Sector

A public sector group has started meeting from Dundee. Chair of the group is Jim Duffy from Dundee City. See file "The Public Sector"

The Private Sector

At present the service provided for the private sector is a research programme that identifies the fundamental theories that are being used by the organisation. The theories are deduced from listening to employees plus studying the methods used and the data collected.

The Media

As the media plays such a crucial role in our society we will have to involve them. As yet we have not opened up this challenge.

Other Groups

It is our intention to involve as many forward thinking in Scotland as we can. The only criteria we ask for is a commitment  to disiplined learning ( i.e. recognising and challenging their theoretical assumptions) and a commitment to Scottish Society as a whole

A Book

The intention is to provide an electronic book on this site - providing a  framework of theories, case studies of successful and unsuccessful projects plus thought provoking articles.

Theoretical Underpinning

The whole initiative is based round developing a sound foundation for our learning. see file "Alignment" and "Comparing Theories."

Education

It is vital that we have an education system in Scotland that recognises present research in how we learn and looks to the future needs of our society. - See file "Education"

Scottish Universities

There is great knowledge of the Social Sciences within our universities. The challenge is to coordinate and use that knowledge. - see file "Universities"

Services

Though not depicted in the above diagram the Learning Society project will require to create links to a range of services that can assist with the transformation of the thinking underpinning this programme. - see file "Services"

Involving the whole of society

The fundamental premis of this initiative is to involve as many forward thinking individuals as possible. See file "Get Involved"

Administration

The final element is the formation of an Administration centre for the whole project. The centre would address the PR effort required, managing finances, securing funding, arrange research, arranging speakers etc etc. The Initiative has not as yet secured funding support.
